Stating a business is scary, not only are you worried you’ll be well received , will you succeeded, do you have the cash flow, what how will you show up and serve. The list is endless, it’s often so overwhelming as to know where to start! But here are my budget tips and suggestions:
Tips to starting a business from the ground up and on a budget
- Start with your brand name, and an idea of who and what you stand for. Get a good idea of your target audience and really hone into your business why. That way you know who and what you stand for, and the direction you’re heading in. From there, we start with the pretty! You need graphics and branding! Hi, I’ll be here to help you! But also Canva is a great add on to help create on-tap, on demand consistent graphics. Canva is a great add one once your branding has been done, as you can pop your brand fonts, colours and logos so you can always keep your messaging in brand alignment.
- Next you need your website domain, I know it sounds odd to do it as your next step, but it sometimes might even need to be your first. Its a great first few starting steps because sometimes your company name is already bought. I’d suggest using GoDaddy or BlueHost as domain providers. Your website domain is your websites name and place in the web.
- Start your email list! FloDesk or MailChimp, are great platforms to create that hype! If you don’t Have a website FloDesk has a handy tool with its Full Page Form, which can act as your website. I know it seems odd to start with a mail list, before even maybe a website, but your email list is your tangible asset, you own it. Not only that you can start testing what your people find valuable.
- Now it’s time for your photos, hello again, always here to help. Having professional imagery helps your brand have more credibility and unique and brand aligning images. And there’s no harm in using stock images.
- A project management system, it’s a game changer, don’t expect yourself to know and remember everything! You can create systems, save time and it also helps if you start to grow your team, as there will be already created systems. These systems create a process and consistency that helps you stay on track or hand over to another person. Monday.com is an amazing one, there’s also Asana, trello etc.
- Now it’s time to get invoicing and client communication on tip top form! I know it’s scary investing in things, it’s so much easier just expecting yourself to do the work, but in the world we live in, there’s an app for everything that will simplify your day and time. If you have quotes, Invoices and contacts start looking for aligning CRMs, such as HoneyBook, xerox etc.
- If you’re a service provider, design a guide that shares your pricing, your services and who you are. Create a pricing guide or a media kit that you can update time and time again. This is a great way to look professional, brand aligned and helps streamline communications with clients.
- The legal eagle stuff! Get your taxes and contracts sorted and iron solid so that your company is air tight if sometime comes after you
