The core value of the studio is kindness, but we wondered what does kindness and self kindness mean to you?
To me, as a child, I was taught sharing is caring. That sharing what you have, wether that’s knowledge, extra chips on your plate, share it. Fun fact, I’m an only child so we’re always perceived as people who don’t share…
But, self kindness is another factor all together. In away, self kindness is a new term, and we often find as a prescriptive word for overindulgence – taking a long bath, or taking time out of the day when others are busy. We think of self kindness as often selfishness. But, as we break down self kindness, it does not have to do with actions, but rather the thoughts and way’s in which we speak to ourselves – are they filled with kindness? An easy way to think of self kindness, is the way you’d talk to a loved one, or the advice you may give them. When we think of kindness towards our loved ones, it’s interesting to note; kindness is helping our loved ones stay on track, supporting them; it’s not defined as letting them lose sight of their goals. Self kindness is not about doing the easy thing, it’s about doing the thing that gets you closer to your goals.
